Treat your project like a star: Roll out the red carpet

When reaching the later stages of a project, I protect it from scratches or marring by tossing a carpet remnant—usually available for around a dollar per square foot at home centers—on my workbench. The type with foam backing works especially well, as it tends not to slide around.
