We love a banjo that aids dust collection

When sanding turned objects, I used to bungee-cord the end of a shop-vacuum hose to the lathe. It was an awkward arrangment and hard to relocate. Then I realized I could utilize the tool-rest support (banjo) as an aid for easily and effectively relocating the dust collection.
To make your own, fit a dowel into the banjo hole that used to hold the tool rest. Drill a centered hole to fit the dowel into a block of wood, and glue the dowel into the block's hole. Attach a shop-vacuum floor nozzle with two screws as shown, and secure the other end of the dowel in the banjo hole. Place the banjo behind the workpiece. You can quickly move the nozzle around and lock it in position, just as you do with a tool rest.
