A board between a vise.

After dropping a workpiece through the opening in my bench vise for the umpteenth time, I made a support board that rests on the guide rails. It covers the greasy vise screw, and prevents a workpiece from slipping through. Guide blocks glued to the bottom keep it in place. The support board slides under the slightly raised wood jaws and I cut it narrow enough to allow the vise to completely close. That way I can just leave it in place.
