Small workpieces cut on the mitersaw can be sucked into the spinning blade, creating a hazard to the operator and the equipment. The device I came up with serves as both a hold-down and an adjustable stop. I simply bent a piece of a coat hanger, as shown above, and attached it to a 1×2×12" scrapwood stop.
