It bothers me to have hoses and cords strung across the floor of my shop. Besides being tripping hazards, they make sweeping the floor a hassle.

To get these out from underfoot in my shop, I made an 8' boom arm out of a 2×4. I fastened it to a support post (a wall stud would work, too) using a hinge and connected a steel cable to help support it. I attached my dust-collection hose, compressed-air line, extension cord, and lighting to the boom. With its 8' reach, I can swing it where it's needed for easy access and not worry about tripping.
