Description

These new chisels from Narex have a classic design with blades that are bevel-edged to a narrow land on each side, providing excellent clearance when trimming into an angled corner such as in dovetail work, as well as reducing sidewall friction when working in a tight recess. Well made, the blades are accurately ground chrome-manganese steel, hardened to Rc59. The stained beech handles have steel hoops and ferrules for strength, and are oval shaped for comfort and to resist rolling on a bench. Chisels are about 10" to 12" long overall. Tip guards included.

Price is for 7-piece set. Other sets available, or sold separately for $10–23 each.

WOOD magazine review

Value-priced set of 7

Review Summary

This set didn’t dazzle us, but it does offer a solid-performing collection for a reasonable price. The dark-stained beech handles felt chunky in small hands and unevenly balanced. Flats on the front and back faces prevent narrow chisels from rolling off a workbench. The blades needed work to flatten the backs, but they sharpened quickly. Also available in 3-, 4-, and 10-piece sets; these sets lack a box or roll for storage.

Review Summary

I purchased the metric set of these chisels from Highland Woodworking a while back for about $60. With 6 chisels included that's only $10 each! Compared to other chisels in the same price range, these are a much better value. The factory milling was quite good for the money. Lapping the back and putting an edge on them was a snap. I've been using them for a few months now and they have done really well holding an edge.
The storage case they came in was also a nice touch for budget chisels.

Review Summary

I saw these highly rated in a review so I though I'd try them and I'm not disappointed. They seem to be of great quality and hold and edge very well for their low cost.
