Review

Shop-Vac’s compact Tool Mate toolbox/vacuum combo continues to exceed my expectations as I use it more and more while remodeling an old house.
With a 21⁄2-gallon capacity, it’s handy for portable use where a larger vacuum proves cumbersome. Despite its size, this unit has surprisingly powerful suction, but not enough to sufficiently collect dust from a shop machine, such as a bandsaw or router table. The vac attaches to the toolbox, and can be used separately, too. The stout and roomy toolbox has adjustable tray dividers to fit small tools and supplies, and when attached to the vacuum, makes a compact, carryable kit for punch-list jobs around the house. The 11⁄4"×4' hose and three nozzles store inside the toolbox lid. —Tested by Nate Granzow, General Interest Editor
