Craftsman XSP 16-gallon 6.5-HP wet/dry vac (#12007)

Review Summary

The good & maybe bad: Powerful, loud, big & bulky. Performs better than any other canister vac (with same HP rating) I have used. Great for picking up water, small rocks, dirt, glass, wood, etc. At $100 on sale, its about average price for its size and rated HP. I took out the general purpose filter & put in the HEPA (#17912) one that's made for fine dust like concrete or drywall.
For wet pickup, pull out the paper filter & install the wet pickup filter (#17292). There is also an optional electric pump (#16952) for draining the tank. I have read negative reviews about this pump; the propeller breaks easily when there is any debris caught in it.

A serious workhorse of a vacuum

Review Summary

My little 6-gallon Craftsman vac died after most of a decade's worth of general shop cleanup. I picked up this new Craftsman based on the print review. So far this thing is a major step up in capacity and overall performance. It SUCKS - and here that's a very good thing. This thing is best termed 'vigorous'. More than half of my use for a shop vac is as a floor sweep, and the wide-blade nozzle attachment got a thorough workout this morning.
I removed the squeegee snap-in attachment on that nozzle end and have been running with it bare. It's great to be able to vac sweep more than just a 6" wide area at a time. It's fairly quiet as shop vacs go, but certainly louder than a central dust collection system is. A bonus is that I find that the long(!) power cord is welcome. There's not so much running around to various outlets around the shop any more. It's pretty stable and you can pull it around with the hose and not worry about tipping it over (a constant thing with my old, smaller unit). I don't foresee ever using it for wet applications, but it's good to know that it's an option now. It's a humble little thing in the shop, as machines go. But so far this wins the Mikie Likes It award this week.
