Description

You don't have to spend a fortune to enjoy a cleaner, safer work environment. Turn your shop vacuum into a 2-stage dust extractor with the Dust Right Vortex™! Collect dust and debris longer, without losing suction caused by prematurely clogged filters on any vacuum. 10-gallon translucent bucket is conveniently easy to empty. Holds twice the capacity of competitors' products and is easy to see when it's full. The five-caster base makes it exceptionally stable and easy to maneuver around the shop. Plus, hoses connect inside the in/out ports, preventing unintentional disconnections. Includes a 36'' flexform connect hose. Patent pending.

WOOD magazine review

Good separation, twice the storage, at a reasonable price

Review Summary

Though lacking some of the features of the equally impressive Oneida Dust Deputy (no static-reducing strips or vacuum-mounting kit), Rockler's less-expensive Vortex captured just as much dust—keeping the vacuum’s filter clear and its tub nearly empty. The 10-gallon capacity of the Vortex doubles that of the Dust Deputy and other 5-gallon separators—so we were able to go twice as long between emptying.
The bucket’s five casters make it stable yet easy-wheeling, and its distinctive translucent blue sides show when it needs to be emptied. Comes with a 36" flexible 2-1/2" hose.

One of the best on a budget

Review Summary

I love this little guy. I have used it for a few months now and hardly ever get anything into me vac. I no longer clean filters every few hours of woodworking and always have tons of suction power.

Review Summary

I too have been using this little giant in actually reducing my final vacuum collection to the ultra fine powder that was not seen as it was previously admixed with gross sawdust. Rockler also sells the fittings/hardware with your supplying the catchment container but I agree, the transparent container with the kit lets one see how quickly the add on picks up and fills up! I'm planning to add a similar item, but larger inline ahead of my dust collector.

VORTEX FAKE

Review Summary

Have has this unit for several months and am disappointed with it every time I use it. I have it coupled to a portable shop vac. The unit is very top heavy and tips over under the weight of the hose that came with it. Although it removes the larger particles, the fine dust that is carried over to the vacume cleaner still plugs up the filter on the vac so now you have two devices to disconnect to clean the filter.
I do not understand how engineers can design a product that is larger at the top than the base and still expect it not to tip over no matter how many casters you put under it. The only good feature is the transparent container but you really don't need that because the cover keeps coming off the unit or it tips over and you can look to see it its full. This unit will not be mobile, and only works for stationary use. I would not buy another one. I'm sadly disappointed.

Good, not great.

Review Summary

This thing for the most part, works as advertised. Some finer dust gets through to the shop vac, but not enough to not save time. Wood chips of all sizes are kept in the large, translucent container. It is a bit top heavy, but I haven't installed the casters so its not a problem for me. Wish they made some sort of multitool connector and built it into the top for say 3 tools.
I keep mine in one place and don't want to move it around, I just want it to have several tools attached at once without a separate splitter. Good deal, on sale recently for $59. I have mine hooked up to my miter saw and it does a good job and doesn't noticeably reduce the suction/air flow. I have hooked it up to a router table to my Incra fence and it does a good job. I would just like to run two lines, one to each tool and have the top accommodate such a set up.
