Ridgid 5" random orbit sander

Review Summary

I love this tool. Soft start, variable speed, and it's quiet as well as comfortable. I spent 8 hours using this model and my hand wasn't sore and my fingers didn't feel like they were spring steel. The Porter Cable equivalent I used the day before? It wrecked me. I liked the Ridgid so much, I bought one on my way home so I wouldn't get stuck with the PC again.

4-month lifespan

Review Summary

After only four months, this sander lost its ability to spin at a safe speed without the pad in contact with a surface. The pad spun like a high speed grinder, fastest at the 6 setting and still fast at the 1 setting. A weird, metal-on-metal sound began coming from the sander. I’m guessing it is losing a bearing due to the speed issue. It’s only good point is the dust collection ability. Overall, this sander is a disappointment for a Ridgid model.

Rigid R26011 sander

Review Summary

This is my second one, first one lasted nine years of almost daily use. I also have a Dewalt unit as a backup. Price is still low enough for most everyone to own one. Only major disappointment on this one over the old unit was the cord is so much shorter, felt kind of let down over that, all the other features are still there and it is still an excellent machine for my needs.
