Ridgid Benchtop Spindle Sander

Review Summary

Not only is this machine nearly unstoppable as an oscillating spindle sander, it’s also a 4×24" oscillating edge sander. The belt drive fits into the same drive shaft as the drums, and provides about 8" of working belt length. It takes about 30 seconds to make the change to spindle sanding. The front of the aluminum table tilts down to 48°. A shop vacuum hooks up easily to the 2-1⁄2" dust port and gathers in all but a little dust behind the drums.

Review Summary

I am kicking myself for not getting this tool years ago. I am doing a basement remodel and it has paid for itself already. Harry,at work, semi-retired, and now doing plant maintenance has one. I ask him how he liked it. His reply,"If it quit today, I would stop what I am doing and go buy another one." I agree.

Excellent sander

Review Summary

I have been using this sander for a long time now and I love its performance. The only thing that I wish they would do is put a switch on to turn off the oscillation for the times when you need a stationary belt.

Ridgid Sander

Review Summary

I have owned this sander for about 12 or 14 years now. I use it on almost every project I build. The belts are very quick to change, as well as the spindles. You can't buy a better product for the money.

Love it!

Review Summary

It's just plain awesome, handy, and inexpensive. My only complaint is that while Ridgid did their usual very nice job of providing storage for all the parts and accessories, those parts don't always stay in place when transporting this benchtop machine between workplace and storage.

A Winner in every sense

Review Summary

I agree with both Don & Larry, this is a fabulous tool. I hope that they keep producing this one for years to come. It paid for itself the first week that I had it. A joy to use and there really is nothing else like it on the market.

Good machine

Review Summary

I have had this for over three years and use it regularly. When I first got this I had to take the dust hose on and off the connector on the bak and it eventually broke from this. AfterI replaced it I found a small hose to leave connected to it and it is fine. It actually does a pretty good job with the dust removal, and that surprised me as the vents are in the rear for the most part.
I have not been able to find individual sanding tubes for this, so I have to buy them in a mass package and so I have a bunch of discs that I do not use hanging around.

Mostly satisfied but.......

Review Summary

I bought this tool when I started making construction toys. I was elated with it. Features are excellent and easy to use. My one problem is that less than two months after I bought it, the motor went out. It was covered under warranty but it took 2 1/2 months to get it repaired. Don't know if it was the repair centers lack of ordering promptly or the other end. This is why I rated performance at a 3.

Pleasantly surprised

Review Summary

I was concerned about a tool with multiple uses after owning other multi-purpose tools in the past, but this one delivers. It does what it is supposed to. Changeover from drum to belt is quick and easy with all the accessories neatly mounted close at hand. Dust collection is adequate although not superb.

Ok but not great

Review Summary

I really wanted to like this more than I did, since I had a bunch of sanding belts that needed to be used and I like it's versatility. I was using this right next to my Ryobi spindle sander and this Rigid model was under powered compared to it, so I ended up selling it. Nice for light duty work but not meant for any kind of speed.

Better as a spindle sander than a belt sander

Review Summary

I never could get my belt to track correclty. The finish on the table started to wear off and transfered to my work. I never used the onboard storage because things would fall out if ou moved it around. Now the positives. It was very lightweight and easy to move. The dust collection worked fairly well. The price was very reasonable.

What did I ever do without it?

Review Summary

A really nice machine that is well thought out and put together. I have had zero problems with it and i use it almost daily.. Prior to this purchase I had to hand sand or use my 4x24 belt sander. Dust colection could be improved on but for the most part it all works well.
