WOOD magazine review

Above-table bit changes and spindle lock

Review Summary

Powerful 3 hp motor with electronic feedback kept this router from bogging down during any of our tests. One-wrench and spindle lock bit-change system coupled with above-table bit change make this model excellent for table-mounted routing. In addition to thru-table depth adjustment, the Freud has a thru-table spindle lock that uses the same wrench. For handheld plunge work, the precise rack and pinion rod adjustment resists creep, and it has an accurate and easy-to-read depth scale and pointer.
It has very comfortable raked handles with outer half over-molded soft grips, and a handle-mounted locking trigger switch. However, the spring-loaded plunge lock defaults to unlocked position and requires upward rotation to lock—you have to shift your grip and push very intentionally with your fingers (not thumb operable). Easy to not push far enough and not lock plunge position. This router is tall and top-heavy and feels unstable for routine handheld tasks, especially edge work. Large sub-base opening makes it particularly unstable at corners.

works well, but best used with a router table

Review Summary

good strong machine, but a bit heavy and unstable in some cases. I use it almost exclusively with my router table and have no real complaints
