Description

Transferring a line from one surface to another perpendicular surface with a small square is never easy. Try wrapping this line around all faces and you'll see how far off you can be.

Our saddle square solves this problem by allowing you to scribe two perpendicular surfaces at a time. More important, it allows you to pick up on a line already scribed, and accurately transfer it to another face perpendicular to it.

With 1-1/4" and 2-1/4" inside legs, it can be used to wrap a line around workpieces up to almost double this. Made of anodized aluminum, 2" wide, with both end faces machined square to within 1/4°.

So useful

Review Summary

Really... it's out on my bench all day every day. This is one of a family of angled squares in the Veritas stable. There is a larger brother to this small square, others which are used for laying out dovetail angles and even one for laying out 45° angles. And yes, I really do own and use one of each of them. This small saddle square takes the inevitable inaccuracy out of transferring a line between mating faces of a board. Where is that really useful, you'd ask?
Well, in my shop it's most often used for transferring a cut line on a board. Instead of eyeballing kinda/sorta where to line up the board for the crosscut I can have a reference line on the face heading into the blade and the face staring back up at me. It increases my accuracy by a very large margin. Of course, there is always joinery layout and other such duties. And the saddle square excells where a normal tri-square has that small bit of inherent inaccuracy as you transfer the line across surfaces. It's really simple and really a no-brainer in the shop. Definitely good stuff.
