Description

These awls have accurately turned conical tips, strong bolsters and comfortable handles. The tip is A2 steel hardened to Rc 60-62 for toughness, and can be replaced if damaged.

The bolster, made from stainless steel, transitions smoothly into the taper of the handle to provide a larger hand contact area. The hard maple handles have been torrefied*, a heating process that changes the structure of the wood at the cellular level, to stabilize the handles against swelling and shrinkage caused by humidity changes.

The small 4-3/8" awl can be cupped in your palm with your fingers close to the tip, allowing more control for delicate work. The large 5-3/4" awl fits comfortably in your hand. Sure to become the first awls you reach for when laying out projects.

Reader Reviews

NICE, BUT PRICEY !

Review Summary

I've had a set of these for a few years now and they are comfortable in the hand and are milled very accurately. At this price I probably won't ever be using them for any metal work, or hammering on them. I mainly bought them as a treat to myself ,so I could have some very high end nicely made Awls, which they are. Probably the nicest set of Awls I'll ever own. In use recently I accidentally dropped one on the concrete floor and the tip broke off.
Unfortunately it broke off inside the shaft so I wasn't able to remove the whole tip for replacement. I simply called Lee Valley, whom I purchased them from with my complaint, and they sent me a new one without hesitation. The price for the small one is $20.00 and the larger $23.00
