WOOD magazine review

Spiral head delivers great cut

Review Summary

Pluses: Nearly the same machine as the JWP-15DX, this model upgrades to a helical cutterhead and cast-iron infeed and outfeed tables, which add mass and a smoother, continuous surface. The cutterhead contributed the quietest cut in our test of seven planers at a level signficantly quieter than its sibling, and its cut quality was best of the seven planers we tested. Right out of the box, the cutterhead was aligned perfectly parallel to the table, and it created the shallowest snipe.
You also get a 5-year warranty. Minuses: Though called a 15" planer, this machine’s maximum workpiece width is actually 1/8" less than that. Despite having four casters, this planer is cumbersome to roll around because none swivel or roll smoothly.
