Description

The Dowelmax Kit creates strong, accurate joints of virtually any configuration from 3/4"x3/4" to 4"x4" of any length, that are engineer's test proven to be equal in strength to mortise and tenon joints. The Dowelmax Kit is equipped with 5 hardened steel drill guides for use with 3/8 dowels. Optional 1/4 inch drill guides for using 1/4 inch dowels for 1/2" and 5/8" stock are available. Dowelmax joint configurations and sizes can be single, double and triple row, flush, offset, mitre, face and "T" joints. The Dowelmax is a reversible jig meaning that it locates the dowel positions on both workpieces from the same joint face. This design coupled with rigorously maintained manufacturing tolerances of +/-.001 inches for the 36 aluminum, brass and steel components making up the kit ensures that the Dowelmax is accurate and repeatable from workpiece to workpiece and through any adjustment. The Dowelmax Kit is a professional quality, precision engineered joining system that is intended to last a lifetime.

WOOD magazine review

The best doweling jig ever made

Review Summary

Don't let the price scare you: In our tests, this finely built jig proved more accurate than a biscuit joiner, and at least as versatile. The spacing of the five 3/8" drill guides (1/4" guides are optional) and the end of the jig is so precise, you can reverse the jig, and the joints still fit like an old shoe. For offset joinery, such as where a table apron meets a leg, index marks on Dowelmax ensure correct workpiece orientation before drilling.
Mark the face of the joint, and then insert each workpiece with the marked face against the check mark on the jig. Using the spacers that come with Dowelmax, we could seamlessly join virtually any combination of material thicknesses from 1/2" to 4", flush or offset, edge-to-edge or edge-to-face. As with the Veritas jig, Dowelmax's indexing pin makes joining long workpieces foolproof. If you prefer more distance between the dowels, simply install the distance gauge on the jig and space the dowel holes up to 9" apart as you step down the edge of the workpiece.

the cadillac of doweling jigs !

Review Summary

I've owned a few other doweling jigs in the past and I haven't doweled many projects because of it. Not any more! I love using this jig. It's so well engineered , it works perfectly. You can work off from either end of this jig as the holes are exactly spaced the same from either end. Adding to what the wood magazine reviewer said , you can actually space dowels as far apart as you like by making your own distant gauge rods from 1/4 round metal stock.
