Description

Primus planes manufactured by E.C. Emmerich of Germany have bodies made of select European beechwood with lignum vitae soles. An all-steel mechanism adjusts the position and tension on the cutter. This plane has an adjustable front sole section for precise sizing of the throat opening. The iron, bedded at 50°, is fitted with a chip breaker for the cleanest possible cutting. 11" long, 1-3/16" wide and 3-3/8" high.

WOOD magazine review

Durable wood plane takes some getting used to

Review Summary

As is typical of wooden planes, this one needed work to square the sole to the sides, but it was quicker work than with the metal planes. The hard-wearing lignum vitae sole seems as durable as the metal soles of other planes. The mouth is adjustable, but it's such a seamless fit you'll be hard-pressed to see it from the side. It was easy to set the cutting depth via the threaded screw adjuster.
Overall, though, this is not a comfortable plane to use, and it's really best used with two hands.
