Description

This is a great handmade wooden plane from a company in Kentucky that uses only local sources to construct its line of Nice Ash planes. Feels great in your hand and has a nice heft. The 1/4" O1 steel iron is beefy enough to provide chatter free planing. It has simple lines and a comfortable shape for one or two handed use. American made quality at a reasonable price with great performance.

Nice Ash Block Plane

Review Summary

I love this little block plane. The feedback you get from a wooden plane is just priceless and a sensation you don't want to miss out on if you've only ever used metal planes. It is simple (4 parts: iron, wedge, body, steel pin) and after a bit of a learning curve to figure out how to adjust the iron with a hammer, you're in business.
After a quick honing of the iron (less than 5 minutes on 800, 1000, 2000 grit sand paper) it was producing thin shavings in oak and maple and a glass like surface that rivaled my best metal planes (smoothers and jacks). I can't say enough about how much I love the feeling of holding the wood plane to the workpiece. It really is neat. If you're looking for a new block plane, you can't go wrong here! And it's handmade in America with only local (to Kentucky) sources for parts. That right there is worth the price to me, but the performance earns it in my book. Dimensions: 7" long by 2" wide and 2" high. Iron is 1.5" wide, 1/4" thick and 3.5" long. A great size to hold in one or two hands. You won't be disappointed!
