Lives up to the premium price

Review Summary

Based on the classic Stanley designs from a century ago and built in Maine, this jack feels comfortable in your hands and proves easy to use right out of the box. The A2-steel blade takes longer to sharpen than others, but holds an edge longer than carbon-steel blades. You can buy extra frogs ($75–80 each) for this plane to quickly change the cutting angle using the same blade; the blade and frogs are also interchangeable with Lie-Nielsen’s no. 4 smoothing plane.
Plus, these tools have proved to hold their resale value should you later choose to sell yours.
