Handy tool saves blades

Review Summary

This precision hand-held metal detector can save you from costly damage to blades, planers, cutter heads, and jointers by detecting nails, screws, staples, or other metal objects in wood. It’s perfect for scanning recycled wood. Its lightweight, rugged, and easy to operate. Indicators include a speaker and LED red lights. To operate, simply adjust the dial on the Little Wizard until the tone signal stops, position and move in a circular motion.
A continuous tone and light will let you know when you’re directly above any metal object. The Little Wizard can easily be fine-tuned or adjusted to your environmental conditions too.

Saves your carbide teeth and blades

Review Summary

I've had this same metal detector for many years now and it is essential to use some kind of metal detector before cutting into used or recycled lumber. I've chipped enough teeth on my saw blades to have learned this lesson the hard way. this wand works well enough on metal in 3/4" lumber but doesn't do well on metal embedded much deeper than and inch.

little wizard metal detector

Review Summary

Did not detect several hidden old "cut nails" in a piece of old oak and cost me $80 to replace the CARBIDE inserts for my planer. After that incident I experimented with the detector to see if it was my fault or just did not work correctly. It was the detector. Sent it back and bought the one for over $100 and now I have one that will detect hidden nails. I did notice that the other reviewers gave high/good reviews but mine is 3 years newer and maybe they have changed since then.
I have seen other reviews since in others places and they had the same experience as me.
