1.5 HP Steel City Dust Collector not recommended

Review Summary

Good power for a 1 1/2 HP unit but quality is bad. It took me many emails and phone calls just to contact the company. Original plastic lower bags were too big and leaked. Clamps had rivets loose. Upper bag still leaks even after getting the Steel City tech. dept. to send new straps. New plastic bags are smaller dia. and fit better but still leak a little around the strap. The tech dept. suggest foam tape around the drum where the straps go. I did that.
Even after getting the bag leaks down to a min. I noticed pin holes at the welds where the 6" dia. inlet tube is spot welded to the drum. Assembly was also difficult - poor fits. All in all I am very disappointed with this machine. Most Chinese products are just not very good.

A reasonable DC with good power at a good price

Review Summary

I purchased one of these DC systems at a Steel City warehouse sale a few months back, and have it hooked up to table saw, jointer and planer (with automated blast gates and first-stage collection can between the planer and the DC). I didn't have any of the difficulties described in the earlier review.
I find that the fit and finish is totally acceptable, and that the performance is head and shoulders above my old Delta 650CFM system. Yes, the plastic bag is a little loose on the flange, but one easy fold over of the plastic near the spring clamp was all it took to get a nice fit of the bag to the body. I'd make this purchase again with no reservations.
