Description

The Laguna Mobile Cyclone Dust Collectors offer the benefits of a cyclone and the portability needed for workshops of all sizes. The cyclone collection unit allows the wood particles and dust to be separated from the air stream before going to the pleated cartridge filter. This provides superior dust collection and air filtration so that the wood particles do not pass through the efficient fan unit. Dust is collected in a 30 gallon metal collection drum which features quick release and separate wheels for quick and easy emptying. Manual filter cleaning insures that the pleated filter is always ready for the next use of the machine and remains in top shape. A unique feature is the negative pressure bag frame which allows the disposable bags to stay in shape in the negative pressure environment of the drum. The remote control allows you to start the machine from anywhere in the shop saving you time and steps. Industrial casters allow this machine to move easily around your shop. This machine is also very quiet, protecting your ears as well as your lungs.

WOOD magazine review

Nice for small shops

Review Summary

A compact, portable cyclone with limited suction ability, this machine ran the quietest (77 dB at 10'), filtered dust well, and its drum proved easy to dump when full. (A wire screen sits inside the disposable bag to help it fill to capacity.) Its radio-frequency remote control lets you start the collector without aiming directly at it. This Laguna could overcome just 4" of static-pressure loss at 800 CFM, the minimum you'd need for a small-shop duct system.
It would perform more favorably if placed in a central location in a shop with duct runs no longer than 15' and no more than four machine drops, only one of which could be used at a time. This compact cyclone did a great job at filtering fine-dust particles, and would be a great addition to any shop that valued filtration for short duct runs or direct hook-ups.

Perfect size, great CFM and quiet too!

Review Summary

I have had this unit about 14 months now (as of Sept 2014) and it was the perfect choice for my small shop. I wanted a cyclone dc that I could run duct work for in my shop but had a height restriction for the only location I could put. This unit fit the bill exactly (with 3 inches to spare) and the CFM on it was fantastic for the short runs I needed. I ran a main 6" line with 4" branch lines to equipment with blast gates at each machine and for branches.
I was impressed by the suction at the machines with all lines open even more so when I closed it down to only two open. Like the Wood Editor's review I was impressed by the collection barrel and how easy it was to empty. The large filter has kept those micro-sized dust particles under control. This unit is a great performer with all the features I needed. With a 2hp motor you will need a 220v 20A circuit for it. It was easy to use (how hard can an on/off button be?) but it was a bit of a job assembling as the instructions could use a re-write by someone who actually has one of the units to assemble. Also it isn't inexpensive so keep your eye open for sales but don't let that deter you if you need it. This unit is worth every penny.

Keep Looking - Pass on the Laguna MDC0560-0145

Review Summary

I purchased this unit a little over 3 years ago and for the first year it worked without much issue. It is used 20 hrs per month at most, so my usage is very light. I have had it blow 2 starter caps over the years, for some reason they do not disconnect as they should with the motor once in run mode. All larger electric motors have a start and run caps. Electrician says, those things happen. Okay but now I keep a spare set around so I am not down when I need to work.
For the last few months the dust vac will run fine for a while and then just start slowing down, as if one leg dropped then it will shut down. No blown breakers or anything, it just stops. Had electrician install a new drop from the panel, no difference. Laguna does not have a Operation manual just an assembly manual so there is not indication on what the Beep Codes mean when you press the reset button. This unit has an ON, Emergency Off, Breaker Reset and Logic Reset on it. I would NOT buy this unit again and will avoid Laguna for other tools because of this unreliable unit. It is over engineered on the control unit. It needs On/Off, Emergence off and maybe a remote power connect. It does not need a little hand remote to power it up and down, just a waste of time and now a control circuit board to possibly cause issues. Buy a less expensive unit and avoid the hassles waiting on tech support.
