Rockler Shelf-Pin Drilling Jig

Review Summary

Although similar to other plastic shelf-pin jig in this price range, the Jig-It also provides onboard storage in its fence for the included 1⁄4" bit and setscrew hex wrench. Great idea, but protruding latches on the compartment doors prevent the fence from sitting flat on the benchtop when clamped to a 3/4"-thick workpiece. So we had to hang it over the edge of the bench—a minor inconvenience.
Rockler offers 7⁄32" and 9⁄32" self-centering bits for drilling larger holes to accept brass shelf-pin sleeves that fit 5mm or 1/4" pins. Both work perfectly with this jig with no adaptation required, so this single jig lets you drill all the common pin-hole sizes.

Good user on real wood, not the best on melamine though !

Review Summary

This jig works very well in plywood and solid wood but not so well in melamine as it has a tendency to chip out the holes. I found that the drill bit works even better when chucked into a drill press. Rockler tends to be a little pricey on a lot of their stuff so shop around and definitely don't buy unless it's on sale or you have a coupon.

Pretty good value if you get it on sale.

Review Summary

It works as advertised. The on-jig storage is nice. I did get some chipout on some solid wood. The key to avoid it is a electric drill with high RPMs. It is nice that you are able to drill holes after the cabinet is assembled. As with everything from Rockler, wait for a sale or you have a coupon.

Best Shelf Pin Jig

Review Summary

As previous reviewers have said wait until it goes on sale. It is an incredible shelf pin drilling jig. I like being able to drill the shelf pins after assembly so that I can determine where I would like to locate my shelf pin holes. It has assisted me on quite a few projects and it was well worth the money to avoid fabricating my own jig.
