Description

These universal bar clamps are made of high quality extruded aluminum for both light weight and strength. The head of the clamp is riveted for rigidity and the adjustable foot wraps fully around the bar for tight clamping action. Detents are spaced 5/8" apart for quick adjustments. The clamp sits upright and is well balanced for ease of use. These clamps have a large “wing” type knob for good clamping pressure without causing fatigue.

Screws have 1/2" acme thread
Made of extruded and injection molded aluminum alloys

For at least the last hundred years, cabinetmakers have relied on iron bar clamps. With the advent of aircraft grade aluminum, those heavy clamps are obsolete. These aluminum bar clamps are made with the finest quality aircraft grade aluminum, making them extremely strong, without the cumbersome weight of iron clamps. If you need any more clamping force than these clamps can provide, you need to go back and fit your work better, or you could be setting up internal stresses that will cause problems down the road. All of these clamps are made by Universal Clamp Company in Dubuque, Iowa. The name Universal Clamp Co. is not as well known in the market as the traditional clamp makers, however, the quality is truly unparalleled.

WOOD magazine review

The best aluminum bar clamps, period

Review Summary

Lengths: 24", 36", 48", 60", 72" Price range: $29–$41 Our favorite in the category (made in Iowa); every part of each clamp, except for the steel handle screw, is aluminum, so it’s even lighter than other aluminum bar clamps. The tail-jaw notches sit 5/8" apart, giving you more options, with less screw travel, when clamping. Because the head jaw doesn’t wrap around the bar as with other brands, it doesn’t bind under pressure.
And the butterfly handle works well when applying pressure and unclamping.

The best light weight bar clamp, period !

Review Summary

There are a few other light weight bar clamps on the market today , but these really are the best ones. What makes these better than the rest is the clamp head design. All the competitors clamps have wrap around heads, that wrap completely around the bar. I'm guessing that Universal probably has the patent on their design. If you read the reviews on all the competitors models you will see that they tend to bind, because of this wrap around head design. Universal's won't bind.
Another feature that makes these Universals better is their handle. The wide butterfly type handles are much easier to tighten and gentler on the fingers. If you want the finest light weight clamps available today, then these are the ones. If your smart, you won't waste your time and money with the others. These clamps are sufficient for any light to medium duty clamping but I wouldn't recommended them for heavy duty jobs where you need excessive force as they will flex under a heavier clopping force. I found the following two Co's who distribute these to have the best prices; Toolsforwoodworking.com, Thebestthings.com.
