Classic Country Hutch Assembly

Timeless styling and mail-order legs make this project you and generations to come will appreciate. We walk through the assembly of the Classic Country Oak Hutch from issue 182 (March 2008).

  • Classic Country Oak Hutch - Step 1

    Glue, clamp, and screw the first divider (D/E) to the bottom (F/G).

  • Classic Country Oak Hutch - Step 2

    Place a 13-3/64"-long spacer against the first divider (D/E), and clamp it to the bottom (F/G).

  • Classic Country Oak Hutch - Step 3

    Place the second divider (D/E) against the spacer, and glue, clamp, and screw it in place.

    Place the spacer against the second divider (D/E), and clamp it to the bottom (F/G).

    Place the third divider (D/E) against the spacer, and glue, clamp, and screw it in place.

    Position the fourth divider (D/E) flush with the end of the bottom (F/G), and glue, clamp, and screw it in place.

    Clamp the upper front rail (G) into the end divider (D/E) notch with the end of the rail flush with the outside of the divider, clamp it in place, and screw the rail to the divider.

    Place the spacer against the end divider (D/E) and clamp it to the upper front rail (G). Push the second divider against the spacer, clamp it in place, and screw the rail to the divider.

    Place the spacer against the second divider (D/E) and clamp it to the upper front rail (G). Push the third divider against the spacer, clamp it in place, and screw the rail to the divider.

  • Classic Country Oak Hutch - Step 10

    Clamp the upper front rail (G) to the end divider (D/E) with the end of the rail flush with the outside of the divider, clamp it in place, and screw the rail to the divider.

  • Classic Country Oak Hutch - Step 11

    Clamp the back (H) to the case and screw it in place.

  • Classic Country Oak Hutch - Step 12

    Clamp one end assembly (A/B/C) to the case.

  • Classic Country Oak Hutch - Step 13

    Insert one end of the stretcher shelf (I/J) into the lower end rail (A) groove.

  • Classic Country Oak Hutch - Step 14

    Glue and clamp the second end assembly (A/B/C) to the case, capturing the other stretcher shelf (I/J) end with the lower end rail (A) groove.

  • Classic Country Oak Hutch - Step 15

    Hang the doors (N/O/P) and install the knobs.

  • Classic Country Oak Hutch - Step 16

    Screw the case to the top (M).

  • Classic Country Oak Hutch - Step 17

    Glue and clamp the sides (Q/S) to the back (R/U).

  • Classic Country Oak Hutch - Step 18

    Glue, biscuit, and clamp the front rail (T) to the stiles (S).

  • Classic Country Oak Hutch - Step 19

    Glue, clamp, and screw the top (V) to the upper case.

  • Classic Country Oak Hutch - Step 20

    Glue, clamp, and screw the crown cleats (Y) to the top (V).

  • Classic Country Oak Hutch - Step 21

    Glue and clamp the crown front (Z) to the upper case and crown cleats (Y).

  • Classic Country Oak Hutch - Step 22

    Dry-fit the crown side (AA) blanks to the crown cleats (Y), and mark the finished lengths flush with the rear face of each rear crown cleat.
