Square a stud in 2 easy steps

You don't need a jointer to remove the rounded corners of a 2x4. You can do it with any tablesaw. Just make sure that you start with the straightest boards you can find. For the best results, crosscut the studs to the needed lengths before ripping the edges. Step 1: Position your rip fence 31⁄4 " from the inside of your blade. With the blade guard in place, rip one edge of the stud. Step 2: Reposition the fence 3" from the blade. Place the ripped edge of the stud tightly against the fence, and rip the piece again.
