Mount door hinges accurately with blocks

When mounting hardware, such as hinges and drawer slides, there's more than one way to ensure accuracy. To mount upper and lower hinges consistently on several doors, use a gauge block, as shown left. You'll need one for the door frame and another that's ¹⁄₁₆ " longer (to allow for the reveal) for the case frame, as shown below. Cut the blocks from scrapwood.
