Notch drill bits for permanent stop-collar settings

I've been very happy with my pocket-hole jig except for one minor inconvenience. When I need to change the drill depth between ¹⁄₂ "- and ³⁄₄ "-thick material, I find it takes too much time. To remedy the problem, I made a quick reference mark on the bit shank to locate the stop collar. After correctly positioning the collar on the bit shank, I made a shallow notch at the top of the collar with a hacksaw. With this method, the mark won't disappear from extensive use.
