Lithium-ion battery technology will become more affordable with the fall 2007 launch of a line of eight tools (and more to come in 2008) from Black & Decker. This new line, called VPX, brings the advantages of Li-Ion -- lighter weight, better ergonomics, ability to hold a charge longer even when idle -- at voltages and prices that appeal to the do-it-yourselfer and home-owner. Representatives from Black & Decker stopped by WOOD magazine's shop in August to show these and other new tools that will be everywhere their products are sold.

The VPX cut-off saw, left, is one of the tools in the new tool series.
