DeWalt launches cordless brad nailer

DeWalt nailer

We tested battery-powered brad nailers for issue 180 of WOOD magazine, and we found they worked really well for attaching trim and molding around the house. It's especially great to be able to leave the air compressor behind. We also like using them in the shop for making jigs, attaching backs to carcases, and other project applications.

Now DeWalt has joined this slim field with the debut of its model DC608K 18-volt Ni-Cd nailer. It's available now and sells for $280, but it has unique features that we like. Best of all is its mechanical flywheel firing system that allows for rapid bump fire (while still sinking the nails) or sequential fire. There's also a work light that's powered when you press the trigger to light up the nail location, and a belt hook so you can carry it with you. And, it has a 12-position nail-depth adjustment.

The DC608K shoots 5/8" to 2" brads with a magazine capacity of 110 brads. It weighs 7.4 lbs., but feels lighter, and it also stands upright on the battery pack. We've started testing this tool, and our initial thoughts are positive. Look for a complete review in a later issue of WOOD magazine.
