Workbench in an afternoon

Ready-to-assemble components provide a great way to stretch your budget and get that workbench and slatwall you've always dreamed about.

  • Marta gets her basement back

    Marta Clark was so ready for her husband, Mike, to move his tools out of their basement and into their 16x30' garage. End result: Mike got his new garage shop and Marta got her basement back!

    For his primary work area, Mike selected a Gladiator GarageWorks 8' modular workbench, three ready-to-assemble (RTA) cabinets, and a GearWall wall system for tools ( They assembled the pieces in about three hours.

  • Save by assembling cabinets yourself

    1. Bolt together the side panels, top, and bottom.

  • Mike adds the lower back panel

    2. Secure the lower back panel with seven nuts and bolts.

  • Add the leveling legs

    3. After placing the cabinet on its back, screw in the leveling legs.

  • The drawer comes next

    4. Assemble the sides and bottom for the drawer.

  • Finalize the drawer

    5. Add the drawer front to the bottom and sides.

  • Slide the drawer in place

    6. Insert the drawer and then attach the upper back panel.

  • Add the shelf

    7. Insert the shelf and attach it to the cabinet sides.

  • A pair of doors encloses the front

    8. With a helper, hang the two doors and adjust the fit.
