To prove that you don't need expensive cutters to make handsome doors, we made the beautiful raised-panel doors, above, using only three common router bits. Because the panels are hardwood-veneer plywood, they weigh less, cost less, and are more stable than doors made from solid stock.

Reidclif, it's easier if you have a PDF software in your PC... follow the link about adobe illustrations and then just click "Control P", choose your print PDF program instead of your regular printer and that's it... you'll need just a few seconds

I was having trouble with the "print" feature of the article too. I just highlighted the entire article and hit control C to copy the article. I then open Word and hit control V to paste the article to the Word document. Once there it is easy to save the article to my documents file and print. It takes a little clean up on the article to get rid of unwanted characters and spaces but takes less than 5 minutes to get the printed copy.

I tried at least 30 times to print this article but it appears the only way I MIGHT get a printout is by extending my subscription for another 2 years... my current one is already good until 2016. Looks more like a rip off than an offer or service that they write about so convincingly in their magazines.

John: although your comment is 5 months old, just click "Print" at the top of the article for a printer-friendly version of the article.

First, it really is a "raised panel". what's phoney about a second panel that IS raised above the first. More importantly, who wants to spend $150 to $250 on a raised panel router bit set if they only want two or 4 doors. Finally, if the project is going to be painted, using 1/4 inch ply is a LOT cheaper than solid wood panels.

A lot of extra work to make a phoney raised panel. Spend the extra bucks, and get a raised panel router bit set.
