Special-Delivery Mailbox
Rain, snow, and sleet won't faze this winsome postal worker. It's big enough to shelter a bundle of mail, and an acrylic window lets you see at a glance if your carrier has been by yet.
Practical as well as pretty, this easy-to-build mailbox would look right at home beside any woodworker's front door. We made it large enough to shelter a big bundle of mail (including your copy of WOOD® magazine) from the weather.

I built one 2 or 3 years ago. Get lots of compliments on our mailbox. Made mine a bit wider to accomodate some newspapers that we get. I live in southern Ontario, Canada and it's mounted on the west wall, under a 3 foot overhang from the roof. It's mostly protected from sun, rain & snow. I'll have to apply a new varnish this summer
2/18/2013 01:23:05 PM Report AbuseI built this to replace my old metal mailbox as it was too small to hold our daily newspaper. I made the dimensions so as it would hold the newspaper and it has served the purpose well. Used a painted trim color to match the home. Winnipeg, Manitoba.

2/14/2013 01:03:40 PM Report AbuseIt looks interesting, and relatively easy to make. I downloaded it, but I'm not so sure it would work in my climate. I live in the midwest where temps can range from 105 in the summer to -25 in the winter. That's a 130 degree variation. We also get plenty of rain, and truckloads (literally) of snow. But I think it may yet have uses in a less harsh environment.
