Add the slats and finish
Add the slats and finish
1 Plane 5/4 cedar deck boards to 3/4" thick. Cut the front/back seat slats (G) and center seat slats (H) to size. Round over the slats' edges and ends, where shown on Drawing 2. Sand the slats smooth.
2 Before mounting the slats, apply a coat of waterproof penetrating oil wood sealer to the bench frame and slats. (We used Behr Premium Clear Weatherproofing Wood Sealer & Finish, available at Home Depot.) To give the bottoms of the legs (A) extra protection, soak them in sealer in a disposable pie pan.

I had no trouble downloading the plan. Last page, click download PDF no sweat. Looking at this plan, it seems very convertable to using the Kreg system for joinery if so inclined.
5/15/2012 03:57:06 PM Report AbuseAs stated above: As a convenience to allow you to view this free woodworking plan before downloading it, we offer a page-by-page review. If you like the plan, you'll find a Free Downloadable Plan link on the last page of the plan. The downloadable plan will have larger, easier to view illustrations than the online preview. Thanks for viewing, and enjoy the build.
5/15/2012 12:45:16 PM Report AbuseFinally got it. Click on 'FREE PLAN' on 1st page of newsletter. Go to the LAST page of the instructions 'SPACERS POSITION THE SEAT SLATS'. Click on 'FOR FREE DOWN LOADABLE PLAN'. You should get a picture of editor Bill Krier saying "thank you". Scroll down to the plan. It worked for me.
5/10/2012 08:48:43 PM Report AbuseAll of the illustrations needed come with the PDF that you download at the END of the article. Make sure you go to the LAST PAGE and then click on the link for the FREE (And yes, it is a good pdf) DOWNLOAD. END of the article.
5/10/2012 08:14:26 PM Report AbuseI had no problem at all in downloading and opening the plan.
5/10/2012 05:35:22 PM Report AbuseJust down load the plan and printed it out the first time. Didn't even have to get my 10 year old to help me.
5/10/2012 03:24:01 PM Report AbuseFor god's sake, it can't get any easier. Go to LAST page of the article and click "For free downloadable plan". Make sure you know what you're talking about before you trash the site.
5/10/2012 02:59:03 PM Report AbuseI was able to get the PDF of the plans OK but when I try to get the illustrations I get an error message telling me the file ALLART-GARDENBENCH.PDF is corrupted and will not down load.
5/10/2012 01:36:54 PM Report AbuseI've viewed the pdf on both my iphone and work computer
5/10/2012 11:23:46 AM Report AbuseSee rtjurgens comments I downloaded the plans at the end of the article as indicated
5/10/2012 11:04:57 AM Report AbuseI look at all of these comments and I know that it is user error. In every case where free plans are offered, I have been able to download them. When you get to the END of the article/pages, there is the download link. You save the PDF and then you are done. So please, don't trash the web site editors for your inability to complete the task. If I can always get the downloads . . . (and yes, I do the mistakes also, at which time I correct my method) then it is not the site, it is me.
