Rick Hutcheson, Scrollsaw Expert
Meet one of America's top scrollers and his world-class scrollsaw collection.
Rick Hutcheson, Scrollsaw Expert
At a young age Rick Hutcheson learned a great deal about carpentry work from his grandfather. After a hiatus, Rick returned to woodworking in 1980, first making small craft items on a bandsaw. Over time the size and detail of each piece became smaller and more intricate. In 1989 with the purchase of a scrollsaw this work became a full-time job.
In 1993 Rick wrote his first article on tricks and techniques for WOOD Magazine. A subsequent article in 2001 referred to him as the "Scrollsaw Expert." This success also allowed for numerous article publications in scrollsaw specific magazines. The involvement with these publications allowed for increased exposure and an opportunity to share his knowledge with other scrollsaw enthusiasts.
For a period of time Rick was the prototype tester for Delta on the Q3 model scrollsaw. This was one of his most memorable projects. The reward of testing and implementing new design elements was truly remarkable. When the saw hit the market it featured top mounted controls that paved the way for future industry designs.
