Dust Collector Test
We tested a shop full of dust collectors for WOOD Magazine, issue 182. Jeff Hall walks you through our testing rig and methods.its vacuum pressure and that vacuum pressure or that resistance is called static pressure . Out of the box this year and it may pole. 11100 C at them but that's just the vacuum system part of it when we start adding resistance. -- clothes and bags. That they're being pulled end does it. Escape as readily as it's pulled it and therefore that's resistance. The more dot that we put in front of it to a machine. That's also resistance. All of that resistance built with the bags and duct work we need to overcome that static pressure that resistance. Would it CF them cubic feet per minute -- static pressure goes up our air logos down. To truly understand. The performance of a dust collector you need to plot. You're CF spam that's different static pressures and that's called Amkor. This is our test straight. And to do. Bad static pressure without adding -- We. Are increasing resistance of the air flow by closing off the opening of this dot. As we close that we increase the resistance and as we increase or resistancethree positions and they turned out to be the same as for static pressure and we recorded votes. We took these two readings this CFM. And the static pressure and we turn those. Into a fan curve. Here on the left side as we raise our static pressure or increase and ductwork or and its testing case we. Close the gap with the funnel to restricting air as we gave more resistance to this. Our curve went up port. When we started out with no resistance. To the right. We were polling more air -- air flow was the greatest on the right hand side. When we started adding. Resistance. Hard. Air flow decreased to move in sideways to the left and raising with more pressure. If I was going to use mind dust collector with a short amount a -- and move it from machine to machine I would want to greatest amount of air flow . That would be this machine has the most there. Poland through that machine. If I wanted to hook my machine up to a central duct work system. Then I would need to overcome more dot. Resistance. So of this chart here this curve. Is able to overcome more resistance and keep the high level of air flow I would want achieves this one or this one because it. Overcomes that resistance.
