This beautiful Shaker bed design was inspired by one that is in the Pleasant Hill Shaker Community. The original one was made in the late 19th century and was walnut, is near Harrodsburg Kentucky. We use French Bed Bolts (the strongest joint possible for head board to side rail joinery) and the nut is mortised and hidden by a round inlay. This design is for a full size mattress and we make the complete bed, including maple slats. You will learn the best and strongest way to make a knock-down bed, beginning spindle turning, mortise & tenon joinery and a few tricks for saving time without sacrificing quality.
