Guide to shelving
Create a permanent solution to clutter by building and installing shelves to keep things picked up and stored in an orderly fashion. Basic shelf units are fairly easy to build. Any board supported at two points qualifies as a shelf, but you quickly run into questions: Which material and span dimensions work best? What supports should you use? What choices do you have for making the shelf look great and match its surroundings? To steer you through successful shelf-making, we put together this guide.
Where do you find solid oak cheaper than solid pine?

Were I in need of further information, I'd find an online timber supplier who includes descriptions of the the timbers they sell. Plus the uses, and properties of the timbers. Simples. Woodworking is part being instructed and part thinking for yourself. Cheers
2/2/2012 02:29:41 PM Report AbuseYou tell me that this guide will explain "Which material and span dimensions work best? What supports should you use? What choices do you have for making the shelf look great and match its surroundings?" then you go on to tell me that you'll "steer (me) through successful shelf-making..." All I see is 11 pages with a brief description of wood. Where's the info on choosing supports or matching my surroundings? Is there something I'm missing?
