Wide View #1 The sander, jointer, drill press, and planer find homes in the far-left corner of the shop. The lockable cabinet stores drill bits and other accessories. The sander and planer bases were shop built.
Wide View #2 The shop vacuum, from its position in the right corner of the shop, collects dust from a run of clear-plastic pipe. With a mobile base, the bandsaw can be positioned anywhere in the shop. Above the heater is the enclosed exhaust fan. The compressor hose cannections are for spraying.
Wide View #3 Design editor Jim Downing, who headed the shop-concept team, says, "Like a 'now you see it, now you don't' magic trick, a woodworking shop appears in the garage after the vehicles move out. Fluorescent fixutres provide plenty of light, and the white paint on the ceiling and walls enhances it. Epoxy floor paint proves durable and resists grease. Electrical drop cords with twist-lock plugs supply power to machines. For air tools and vehicle care, there's a compressor hose on a ceiling reel."

1/19/2012 11:17:41 AM Report AbuseA few feet off to the side of my garage is a small storage shed where I am able to keep my lawn equipment, storage boxes and such. I do wish I had aseparate shop for welding and such. But that will come with time. Luckily my garage has a carport on it so I can keep the truck there<);o}
1/19/2012 10:50:06 AM Report AbuseFor JREST3: To save space install a tankless water heater on the wall and stackable washer and dryer. while you are building install radiant heat in the floor
10/20/2011 09:24:49 PM Report AbuseGot 1/2 of a two car garage without the dust collector problem--I thought ahead and put it outside in a shed and use a remote switch to turn it on and have only 4" holes in ceiling space. As a master electrician(retired) I built the power then vaccuum, then stationary tool locations--the rest of you guys must luv noise--why else you put the vaccuum inside?
10/20/2011 07:21:57 PM Report AbuseTo: JREST3 Have you thought about a tankless water heater. Just mount it on the wall above the washer and dryer
10/20/2011 05:50:49 PM Report AbuseIf only I didn't have all this bothersome wood that I have to be able to get to!
10/20/2011 04:44:15 PM Report AbuseTHIS IS A NICE GARAGE SHOP. I'M BUILDING A 2-CAR GARAGE WOOD SHOP FOR RETIREMENT & FUN. MY SHOP WILL HAVE A SEPERATE WASHER AND DRYER AREA AND HOT WATER HEATER AREA BUT I STILL AM WORKING AROUND THESE PROBLEMS AND LOOKING FOR IDEAS TO SAVE SPACE.
10/20/2011 12:34:46 PM Report AbuseAlso note that this is a 2-1/2 car garage, not a 2-car garage. The extra width make a big difference
10/20/2011 11:51:10 AM Report Abusethese plans are all well and good but in the real world, we also have to contend with other, space robbing elements of the smaller garage / shop. Lawn equipment, storage boxes, seasonal stuff like lawn chairs... and we also need lumber storage.. with all my tools against the wall, i have no place to put plywood and such plus no place to hang anymore pegboard.
