Woodturning passion
After careers in cancer research and hospital administration in the Midwest, Dave Ramsey retired and moved to Arizona. Dave started woodturning 15 years ago to give him something to do in addition to playing golf. According to Dave, "Segmented woodturning quickly became my passion as my golf game faded."
Residing in Rio Verde, Dave works almost as many hours a day now as before he left his hospital duties. But there is one difference. He will never call it work. He's having too much fun since discovering the joy of woodturning.
"At first there was no notion of selling my work, but this soon changed after I exhibited at a local craft show and offers to buy were extended," stated Dave. "I first sold my vessels in local galleries, but soon expanded to eight galleries across the U.S."

Dave, those segmented turnings are truly magnificent! I have done several segmented pieces, using inexpensive scrap wood for practice. Some day, I hope to try using "the good stuff". Thanks for sharing your art with us.
5/29/2010 08:41:26 PM Report AbuseYou truely have a gift. your vessels and bowls are pure art. I have been a turner since 2000. Mostly pens and lidded boxes. then, last year a friend showed me segmented turning and I was hooked. I also like treen ware. Can you give me/us the low down on how you went from your old career to hobby to art in galeries? fog.wood@yahoo.com

1/7/2010 02:22:52 PM Report AbuseSome of the better segmented work I have seen. Looked for your site, and then to AAW to locate, but with no luck. Curious about your price range. Is that Texas Ebony you use? billyup@etcmail.com
1/7/2010 01:37:31 PM Report AbuseDave your turnings are an inspiration to woodworkers likew me who just started turning a year ago and recently finished my fourth segmented bowl. Nost satisfying woodworking I have done in 50 years. Roger Tumbleson, Lake Havasu, Arizona
